Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease or “gum disease” attacks the gums and bone around the teeth. If plaque is not removed, it turns into calculus or “tartar”. When calculus is not removed it begins to destroy gums and bone around the teeth, thus – periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease is the number on cause of tooth loss and is associated with a number of systemic diseases. Two of the most notable is heart disease and pregnancy complications.

Symptoms of periodontal disease can be

-Bleeding gums
-Loose teeth
-Receding gums
-Inflamed or swollen gums
-Discomfort in the gums
